Press Release
Finnish AI company, Younite, is the main developer in this project working together with the city and creating virtual Gothenburg using Digital Twin technologies and AI Avatars. The tailored Digital Twin of the city allows people to plan the visits, familiarize themselves with locations, and experience the city via one’s own smart device, thus removing many of the physical and mental thresholds that prevent full participation in city life.
The project is co-funded by the European Union as part of the EU’s Digital Europe program. It is led from Gothenburg, Sweden, and brings together a cross-sectoral team of private businesses, civil society organizations, and universities from across Europe, aiming to make city spaces more accessible to everyone.
Afa Heikkinen, CEO of Younite states ‘It is exciting to see the cities around the world are starting to use artificial intelligence in making the cities better places for their citizens and visitors. At Younite, we are proud to be part of this transformation by developing the Digital Twin together with the city of Gothenburg. We are utilizing our capabilities and building it on top of the NVIDIA Omniverse platform.’
Heikkinen continues "The Digital Twin technology will make Gothenburg more accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability, ensuring smooth and efficient navigation through the city. We look forward to collaborating with various stakeholders and entities on this forward-thinking project, aiming to create a smarter, more inclusive urban environment’.
Digital Twins play a crucial role in this transformation by creating virtual replicas of physical city systems. This technology opens the door to smarter, more efficient, and more inclusive urban environments, making Gothenburg an European pioneer in digital city accessibility.
